Place-Based Architecture
Homes that belong to the land.
About
JLF Design Build brings together site-sensitive architecture, honest materials, and a design-build mindset shaped by decades of work across mountain, ranch, and legacy properties.

Our work is less about imposing a signature look and more about drawing out what is already powerful in a place: land, weather, building tradition, material depth, and the way people actually want to gather and live.
How we approach it
The firm’s design heritage reaches back more than four decades, with founding work associated with Jonathan L. Foote and Paul Bertelli and a longstanding architect-led collaboration culture.
With roots in Bozeman and a long body of work connected to Jackson Hole, Park City, the Colorado Rockies, and the Eastern Seaboard, our team understands how regional character should influence design.
That combination of heritage and regional sensitivity is why our best work feels both specific and lasting.

A clear process does more than make work smoother. It protects the quality of the finished project.
The design conversation includes practical considerations early enough to influence the result.
Materials and details are used with intention so the house feels grounded rather than overworked.
A connected process protects the design as it moves from concept to build.
Tell us what you are planning, where the property is, and what level of design involvement you want. We will point you toward the most useful next conversation.
